چکیده

The field of breast reconstruction has evolved rapidly since the advent of the first sili‐ cone gel-filled prosthesis by Cronin and Gerowin in 1963. [1] Over the past decades, we have seen remarkable advances in the field with microsurgical techniques becoming the gold standard for breast reconstruction. The deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap has many advantages when compared to other methods of autologous breast recon‐ struction, namely reliability, malleability of soft tissue, and limited donor site morbidity. It is primarily for these reasons that the DIEP flap has become the preferred autologous option of many microsurgeons.

A Novel Strategy to Supercharge a Deep Inferior Epigastric Artery Perforator Flap after Port-a-Cath Removal

Autologous breast reconstruction using the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap has become increasingly popular because of its unique advantages. However, compared with some other forms of abdominal-based autologous reconstruction, DIEP flaps are associated with an increased risk of venous congestion. Many techniques-or lifeboats-have been introduced to diagnose and treat this...

CASE REPORT Case Report and Review of the Literature: Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap for Breast Reconstruction After Abdominal Recontouring

OBJECTIVE The report herein presents a case of a 49-year-old woman with left breast cancer who presented seeking immediate autologous reconstruction. Surgical history included an abdominal hysterectomy and an abdominal contouring procedure. This is a first description of a deep inferior epigastric perforator flap after abdominal wall manipulation of this magnitude. METHODS Computed tomographi...

Anterolateral thigh flap salvage following failed deep inferior epigastric artery perforator breast reconstruction.

The deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap is an option for women desiring autologous tissue breast reconstruction. If this reconstruction fails, other autologous tissue flaps, including the gluteal artery perforator and latissimus dorsi flaps, may be used for salvage. The anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap offers adequate tissue volume for breast reconstruction, acceptable fat quality and...

Salvage of Intraoperative Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap Venous Congestion with Augmentation of Venous Outflow: Flap Morbidity and Review of the Literature

BACKGROUND Breast reconstruction with deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flaps has gained considerable popularity due to reduced donor-site morbidity. Previous studies have identified the superficial venous system as the dominant outflow to DIEP flaps. DIEP flap venous congestion occurs if superficial venous outflow via the deep venous system is insufficient for effective flap drainage....
